“But I only want to work with one Virtual Assistant!” That was a phrase we commonly heard a year ago when we first started encouraging clients to hire different VAs for different specialties.

Many small business owners had gotten in the habit of hiring a personal assistant and working exclusively with that person for everything. This worked just fine as long as that one assistant was only handling administrative tasks. However, as more and more clients began needing someone to handle their lead generation, social media tasks, etc they became frustrated when their one “go to” virtual assistant wasn’t up to the challenge.

Since that time we’ve seen a tremendous shift in what small business owners are expecting when they hire VAs. Although general VAs are still being requested, we’re seeing a distinct shift towards clients in need of multiple specialists. They’re looking for someone who specializes in cold calling and someone else who specializes in internet research. In addition business owners may also request a Virtual Assistant who specializes in social media or internet marketing.

As our culture shifts towards new ways of communicating and new ways of generating business opportunities we’re also seeing a shift in the way virtual assistants are being utilized. Expectations are shifting, experience requirements are changing and VA Specialists have become very much in demand.
